Anne Lister TV Adaptation Gentleman Jack in Halifax West Yorkshire

Welcome

Welcome to The Old Bridge Inn, Village Pub and Restaurant in Ripponden, just outside Halifax in West Yorkshire. This ancient inn has changed little over the last 700 years. As you approach it over the old packhorse bridge, and enter into this charming, civilised hostelry, there will always be a warm welcome from your third generation hosts Tim and Lindsay Walker and staff.

PLEASE NOTE - Dogs are not allowed into the pub. We do however have some lovely seating outside with dog tethers and drinking stations.

The Old Bridge Inn dates from 1307, and has been owned by our family since 1963. We care passionately about what we do, and constantly strive to maintain and enhance the ambience of our beautiful pub. The interior is furnished with antiques and a few tasteful prints, real fires in winter adding to the welcome. Our award winning floral displays outside add the finishing touch.

Nestled in a quiet corner of the Ripponden Conservation area by the ancient pack-horse bridge is possibly one of Yorkshire’s best-kept secrets. Our efforts have been recognised by many of the leading pub and food guides over the years. We are currently featured in The Good Pub Guide; Alastair Sawdays Pubs and Inns; The AA Pub Guide; The Telegraph Quiet Pint, and the CAMRA Good Pub Food Guide to name but some. We are also the home of the Pork Pie Appreciation Society.

The area is a mecca for walkers, with miles of footpaths to take you from green valleys to the wild moors of Rishworth. Halifax is an architectural delight with its Piece Hall, Town Hall and Minster. The Eureka museum is a must for children, whilst Shibden Hall is the grand home of Anne Lister, our famous diarist – whose story has recently been adapted for BBC/HBO’s ‘Gentleman Jack’ TV series, filmed in Calderdale. Hebden Bridge is a 15 minute drive away, and is a thriving and vibrant Pennine Town with an alternative twist.
